The Brief
The challenge presented was to design and install mechanical ventilation systems to a five-storey townhouse as part of a full property refurbishment in a Conservation area. This included a large new-build Basement with Media and Leisure rooms, an Ensuite bedroom, and Utility and Plant space. Full site coordination throughout installation was required. All ventilation units, slot diffusers and ductwork had to fit with a very specific interior design scheme and be managed around physical and architectural constraints.
The SOLUTION
The discrete Linear Slot Diffusers were specifically selected for the interior and architectural design schemes on this project. In the Basement Games room a continuous Linear Slot Diffuser created a feature ceiling with a floating raft effect, as the ceiling is separated from the cornice detail.
A Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR) system provided energy-efficient fresh air into the Basement rooms by pre-heating with the extracted air and individual in-line silent fans served bathrooms on the upper floors. Ventilation regulations ensuring the correct air changes were achieved in all spaces.
Attenuators were sized for adequate airflow and the restricted space within ceiling, and helped prevent detection of equipment noise and air movement by residents and neighbours. System control had full integration into the home automation system to provide careful automatic regulation of air changes throughout the property.
